They help the service man and his family face critical problems. In addition, the Red Cross provides immediate emergency assistance, including food for disaster victims, shelter, clothing, medical and nursing aid, etc. The American Red Cross Blood Program collects and processes blood from volunteer donors and makes it available for the care of the sick and injured. There are nursing programs which provide volun- teer nursing services in the blood programs and disaster relief, and courses taught in first aid, water safety and AIDS education.
